If you've walked through 79°West Coworking Space & Innovation Hub in Pittsboro lately, you may have noticed the new art around the building. Four local artists from the Chatham Artists' Guild have brought their work into our space, filling it with color, texture, and the kind of creative energy that makes Chatham County such a special place to work and live.

We're celebrating with a reception on Friday, April 17th from 5–7pm, and the evening only gets better from there.

Meet the Artists

Cassie Silber Ancona works primarily in acrylic painting and printmaking, drawing inspiration from her deep love of animals and the natural world. Expect pieces that are vibrant, alive, and full of personality — from herons and bears to lizards and rabbits, each with a touch of whimsy.

Colleen Black Semelka is a ceramicist whose journey took her from dance, to San Francisco, to the studios of ceramic master Paul Soldner. Her pieces carry a warmth and history that's hard to replicate.

Janet Resnik creates affordable, functional stoneware — plates, bowls, mugs, pitchers, bird houses, and more — with glazes reflecting impressionistic landscape, animal, iris, and seasonal designs. Her pottery is the kind you want to actually use and treasure at the same time.

Mary Whitney paints in oils and describes her practice as her Ikigai — a Japanese expression for one's purpose in life; the thing that gets her out of bed in the morning. Her work started en plein air and is completed in studio, and it shows — there's a freshness and presence to it that's hard to manufacture.

Join Us for the Reception

The Spring Chatham Artists' Guild Reception takes place Friday, April 17th from 5pm to 7pm at 79°West Coworking Space & Innovation Hub, located at 120 Mosaic Boulevard in Pittsboro. It's a free, welcoming event — come see the work up close, meet the artists, and raise a glass to the creativity thriving right here in our community. Tickets are available on Eventbrite.

Then Head Across the Street for Live Music

The evening continues just steps away. After the reception, head over to the Philip H. Kohl MOSAIC Family Commons at 457 Freedom Pkwy for The Castaways, playing the MOSAIC Beach Music Series from 7–9pm. The lawn opens at 6pm, and free tickets are available via HERE. Food and beverages are available on-site for purchase — bring a lawn chair or a blanket, and pets are welcome.

It's shaping up to be one of those perfect Pittsboro spring evenings: local art, good company, and live music under the open sky. We hope to see you there.
