Chatham County Places Fourth
In a recent article published by Gene Galin in the Chatham Journal, Chatham County was ranked fourth among the "Richest Counties in North Carolina." Thanks to continued growth, a prime location, and a hardworking community, this recognition comes as no surprise to locals.

Smallest Population with the Highest Average Income
According the North Carolina Demographics as of December 18th, 2024 Chatham County's population is at 80,000 people and the average income per household is $131,980. Now, let's compare that to the number one wealthiest county in North Carolina, Wake County. Wake County has a population of over 1,000,000 people but their average income is barely $2,000 more than Chatham County's ($134,151).

Conclusion
Based on the data, while Wake County holds the title of the wealthiest county in North Carolina according to the average income, the difference between its average household income and that of Chatham County is relatively small. Given that Chatham County has a much smaller population (80,000 compared to over 1,000,000 in Wake), its high average household income is particularly noteworthy.
This suggests that Chatham County, despite its smaller size, is an economically strong and affluent community. The close income levels highlight that wealth in North Carolina is not concentrated solely in its most populous areas, but also present in more moderately sized counties like Chatham.
